Designing a 40th Anniversary Party- Celebrating Mitch & Laura

Our last blog was dedicated to ideas on how to throw a killer wedding anniversary party. Well, we wanted to follow up with a 40th anniversary party we helped plan for Mitch & Laura this past month! We transformed a private room at INC Restaurant located in New Brunswick, NJ. Details below, let’s begin the inspo!

Use the number balloons as a photo backdrop for your guests!

THEME
Since the suggested gift for a 40th anniversary is ruby, we made the color palette ruby and gold. With the deep red curtains and dark wood interior, the Library Room at INC matched perfectly with our theme.

DECORATIONS
After doing a walk through of the room, we put our ideas on paper, designing with romance and simplicity in mind. Check out the Before and After pictures below!

SPEECH
Speeches were given by Mitch & Laura’s two sons, Stephen and Daniel. You could tell the speeches were planned and practiced beforehand, which made the speeches that much more meaningful. Guests arrived between 7 and 7:20pm, Mitch & Laura arrived at 7:45pm, and speeches were given at 8:20pm, so guests were entertained at a steady pace throughout the evening.

GAME
The game was played right after the speeches, while we already had everyone’s attention. We wanted all of the guests to get involved, so we played a trivia game about the year they got married, in this case the year was 1977! Half of the guests were friends of the couple since they were young, so they took a good trip down memory lane with this trivia! Below were the questions we asked, along with the answers. The game only took about 15 minutes!

FOOD, BEVERAGE, ALCOHOL
Instead of a sit down dinner, the event was designed as a heavy cocktail party, selecting 9 continuous h’or d'oeuvres for the entire length of the party. Open bar wasn’t necessary, we just kept an open tab instead and let people get whatever they wanted. The downside to a sit down dinner, is that you’re most likely talking to the same people sitting next to you and across from you the entire dinner. With the cocktail party setting, people were able to mix and mingle with ease.

Lovely and delicious cake, with the much needed cake topper

This party was nothing short of success! What made it great was the preparation, communication, and teamwork from everyone involved while planning this very special occasion. See more details on our GKYS Special Occasion Experiences here!

And always, until further notice, celebrate everything!
